Printmaking

I first began printmaking in the print room at Hastings College, every Wednesday with a friend. I was exceptionally lucky with the timing of this course as I was with like minded people, experimenting, learning, have fun, printing onto giant canvases, cushions, tee shirts, paper, tissue and anything else I could think of and all in a lively, friendly atmosphere, with people who were amazingly generous with their knowledge.

Throughout my time at Hastings College I would often return to the print room and one particular afternoon, Nigel Plumb gave me his time in order to teach me the technique used in 'The Celebration' series.

Celebration Series

Technically these prints are collograph prints. Initially these prints were going to be used as part of an installation. However they looked too joyful for the particular installation I was working on. Therefore I decided to work on them as individual prints and added more depth and colour by building up the layers with paint. I used wax crayons, acrylic paint, household paint and enamel paint to pick out areas of interest and add depth. Three of the original twelve prints have found suitable homes.
